Looking for some tips to help you stay healthier? Kent Chiropractor team members have put together this list of helpful back and neck safety tips to help you stay safe this holiday season:1. Be mindful of long rides. Travel is a big part of the holiday season and for many that means long hours of sitting in a car, bus, or plane.

This can wreak havoc on your spine so take steps to minimize stiffness and pain. Frequent stretch breaks are one of the best ways to fight off a stiff back during long rides. Seat cushions and good back support is also necessary to keep your spine in alignment and to help you stay comfortable for long periods of time in your seat.

When traveling for a long period of time, think about wearing an adhesive heat patch to help your muscles stay loose and keep stiffness from setting in.

2. Be careful when entering a new environment. Even if you stay with family that you have not seen for a long time, check out their home and pay attention to how it is set up.

Remember thing are not where they were in your home so trips and falls can be more common when you forget that there's a coffee table by the couch or a throw rug on the bedroom floor. Also be mindful of environmental changes if you are traveling long distances. Rainy weather, or freezing snow and ice can create walking and travel hazards you might not be used to dealing with back home. So just be a little more cautious and move a little slower in your home away from home.

3. Don't forget your supplies. If you are visiting family out of town for the holidays make sure you have your go to medical and supply bag handy. Pack all your medications and pain pills. Bring your cane or walker if you have one in case you have a flare up. Wear you back brace if you need to. And don't be afraid to tell family that might need to take it easy for a little while after you arrive.

Taking an hour to care for yourself after you arrive can make the rest of your trip much more enjoyable. Take what you need to care for yourself.
