Sourness, cramping or lameness can be brought about when your pony is ailing or injured. The following steps will guide you to treat your pony at home.

To start with, if there is inflammation on the limb of the steed, you are supposed to reduce it. Resting can greatly reduce the abscess thus make sure that you subject your pony to rest for some days. The intensity of the inflammation will dictate the period that the horse will rest. For instance, if the pony has a mild injury, it is allowed to rest for 2-3 days but if the injury is major, the horse can rest for weeks or months.

While the pony is resting, you are required to give it a simple hydrotherapy procedure that will reduce the swelling in the limbs that were injured. This can be done by running cold water from a pipe directly on the limb for about 20 minutes either once or twice each day. The cold water usually reduced the heat around the area that is swollen thus reducing cramping or lameness.

In cases where your pony has an injury at the lower part of the foot, you are advised to use the hot tubbing procedure on a foot so that the tissues around the injured part can soften. This is also a great way to reduce cramping and inflammation. Usually, the hot water draws out the infection out of the limb thus making it less swollen.

A Hot fomentation is also applicable in cases where there are infections or abscess. You are advised to apply poultice at the swollen part so that the inflammation can be reduced. Nevertheless, a treatment is recommended to be used after exercising the horse so that it can actively be absorbed when applied on foot.

You can then use pain relievers to reduce the cramping on the limbs. These medications are usually important in treating ailments that cause the horse to be in agony. Some medications are effective such as analgesics that can even reduce inflammation on the foot of the pony.

If the pony is suffering from mild cramping, you can use aspirin that is also very effective in relieving the mild inflammation, discomfort, and swelling. If the inflammation has caused the plug to have a fever, it is important to administer some medications that will ease the cramping and fever. The medications can be combined with steroids and other drugs.

Several other drugs are available as supplements that may be given to the ailing animal to help it recover from the malady within a short time. For instance, cyclooxygenases are very active in bringing down inflammation and cramping on swollen parts. It is, however, advisable to make sure that you know the side effects because there are drugs that can reduce the supply of blood in the body.
