For the specific individuals who are disturbed by their facial skin having wrinkles, blotches or lines, this is the right type of treatment for them, as it makes their skin look younger. This damage to the skin may be brought about as a result of aging, acne or long exposure periods in the sun. In connection to this, the following is an article on laser resurfacing treatments.

The surgery is done by removing several layers of the top most skin. The inner layer which is left is composed of new cells which make the skin appear tighter and healthier as compared to its original form. According to how much work that is to be done, this procedure may be carried out on its own or it can involve a combination of other surgeries.

It is important for the patients to first consult with their doctors as to whether they are fit to have this procedure carried out on them or not. For the right decision to be made by these doctors, the patients are required to reveal whether they are prone to cold sores or blisters. This is because the treatment may cause breakouts in persons with sensitive skin.

When the patient decides to go on with the procedure, the doctor may advise them to get off medications such as vitamin E or aspirin which can hinder clotting ten days before the surgery. Smokers are also advised to avoid smoking two weeks before and after treatment as this slows down the healing process. In addition, antibiotics may be administered before the surgery to avoid any chances of bacterial infections.

It is important to note that this is an outpatient procedure. This means that the patient is free to go home once the procedure is complete. It may be done on just parts of the face such as the wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead. This just requires numbing the specific areas and it takes one hour. If the procedure is meant for the entire face, then a general anesthesia had to be administered. This takes a maximum of two hours to be complete.

The treated areas are usually bandaged after the procedure is done. After a period of twenty-four hours, the bandages should be removed and the areas cleaned four to five times a day. Ointment is then applied to avoid the formation of scabs. It is important to note that swelling is absolutely normal in this case. It may however be reduced if one sleeps on an extra pillow at night.

One may feel an itchy sensation for a period if seventy-two hours after the surgery. Also, the skin may be dry and peal for a time period of one week after the surgery. Depending on the undertaken procedure, healing may take ten to twenty-one days. When this is done, one is advised to wear oil-free makeup to reduce redness, which usually disappears after three months.

In conclusion, laser resurfacing treatment may not make one have perfect skin, but it surely leaves one looking better than before. The potential side effects may be burns, scars or different pigmentation of the skin. This is the reason as to why it helps to have adequate consultation with the doctor beforehand.
